Boca Juniors fire coach Carlos Bianchi

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Carlos Bianchi was fired as Boca Juniors coach a day after the team lost for the third time in four games in the Argentine league.

Boca president Daniel Angelici made the announcement Thursday, saying it was “painful to rescind the contract” of the most successful coach in the club’s history.

Angelici said it was a unanimous decision of club directors following a 3-1 loss to Estudiantes on Wednesday.

Boca hired Bianchi in December 2012, his third stint in charge of one of Argentina’s most famous clubs — and one with a demanding fan base.

At the time he was hired, Bianchi urged supporters to be patient and not to expect Boca to quickly match its past achievements.

With Boca languishing near the bottom of the standings in 17th place with three points from four games, it seems the club ran out of patience.
