Heatley, Palmieri begin year on Ducks’ injury list

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Forwards Dany Heatley and Kyle Palmieri will miss the start of the Anaheim Ducks’ season because of injuries.

Anaheim set its regular-season roster Tuesday.

Heatley hasn’t skated for his new team since Sept. 28 while nursing a groin injury. He signed with Anaheim in the summer after a 12-season NHL career with four other teams.

Palmieri has a high ankle sprain that kept him out of the preseason. He couldn’t skate Monday.

Defenseman Cam Fowler isn’t on injured reserve, but might miss the Ducks’ season opener with a left leg injury.

Forwards William Karlsson, Rickard Rakell and Emerson Etem all made Anaheim’s opening-night roster in place of the injured veterans.

The two-time defending Pacific Division champions open the regular season with a four-game road trip starting Thursday night in Pittsburgh.
