Washington Capitals set to play Toronto Maple Leafs

WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals have traveled to Toronto, Canada to take
on the Maple Leafs, the second game of a back-to-back for the Caps, who beat the
New York Islanders, 5-2, on Friday.

The Caps lost to those same Islanders, 3-2 in overtime, this past Wednesday.

Left winger Alex Ovechkin tallied the game-winning goal in Friday’s victory, and
now has 12 goals on the season. With the score, Ovechkin tied Caps’ great Peter
Bondra for first on the franchise’s list of game-winning goals at 73.

Ovechkin has earned 49 points in 32 career games against the Maple Leafs. The
Caps are 10-3-2 in its previous 15 games against the Toronto hockey team.

Twenty-two games into the season, the Caps are 10-8-4 and tied for second place
in the Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division, with 24 points. The Maple
Leafs are in fifth place in the East’s Atlantic Division, with an 11-8-3 record
and 25 points. They’re coming off a 4-3 overtime loss at Pittsburgh.

The Caps are 5-4-1 on the road; the Maple Leafs 7-6-0 at Air Canada Centre.

Washington has Sunday off before practicing Monday, 10:30 a.m. EST. The team
practices again 10:15 a.m. Tuesday and plays the Vancouver Canucks that night.

That game takes place at 7 p.m. EST.
