Reds RHP Bailey to 60-day DL; surgery possible

BALTIMORE (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds have moved right-hander Homer Bailey to the 60-day DL, officially ending his chance to return this season.

Bailey has an elbow injury described as a strained right flexor mass tendon. The Reds had initially hoped Bailey would be able to rejoin the rotation this month, but that won’t happen.

Manager Bryan Price said Tuesday that a second MRI did not show enough improvement to where Bailey could get on a throwing program.

Price said Bailey will continue to rehab before the Reds decide whether to move forward with surgery.

Price says surgery is “being discussed.” He says, “with that particular injury, it’s one of the options.”

Bailey went on the DL on Aug. 16. He was 9-6 with a 3.71 ERA in 23 starts.
