Angels drop LeBlanc after 1 start, select Herrera

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Left-hander Wade LeBlanc has been designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels, one day after a poor debut for the club.

The Angels also selected right-hander Yoslan Herrera on Tuesday.

LeBlanc lasted just 3 1-3 innings against Miami on Monday in his first start for the Angels, yielding seven hits and six runs. He was recalled to take the rotation spot of Garrett Richards, who is out for the season with a left knee injury.

The rotation spot likely will be filled by minor leaguers Randy Wolf or Michael Roth on Saturday.

Manager Mike Scioscia says the move wasn’t a reaction to LeBlanc’s start. Instead, the Angels need fresh arms in their bullpen in their final two games against Miami.

Herrera has made six appearances for the Angels this season.
