Massachusetts kidnap suspect pleads not guilty

TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) — A Lawrence woman has pleaded not guilty to participating in an armed kidnapping last month.

Twenty-eight-year-old Stephanie Walker is held on $250,000 bail after her district court arraignment Tuesday on kidnapping and assault charges.

Prosecutors say Walker helped Adynew Alves of Boston kidnap a 49-year-old woman in Lawrence Sept. 23. The victim escaped as they drove south on Route 24 in Taunton.

The Taunton Daily Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1nYJUWE) prosecutor Erin Aiello said Alves argued with the woman over drugs, then Walker helped Alves beat her and put her in the car’s trunk.

Defense attorney Kenneth Fredette said Alves also threatened Walker with a gun and she didn’t know he planned a kidnapping.

Walker was found at Baltimore motel Sept. 29. Alves surrendered to Maryland authorities last week and faces charges including kidnapping and armed assault.
