Counselor charged in sex assault of disabled man

BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Police say a residential counselor at an assisted living facility has been charged with sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled man at the facility.

Sixty-three-year-old Gary Toft of Baltimore was arrested this week and charged with perverted practice and three counts of sex offense. He is being held on $150,000 bail. Online court records do no list a lawyer for Toft.

According to charging documents, staff at Creative Options called police on Sept. 20 after the victim reported the assault, which police say occurred on Sept. 14.

Lt. Sarah E. Connolly, a police spokeswoman, said in a news release that Toft confessed to the crime and talked about other sexual assaults he had committed.

Police have set up a hotline for anyone to report crimes that Toft allegedly committed: 410-396-2269.
