2 workers injured in Eastern Shore chlorine leak

PITTSVILLE, Md. (AP) — A chlorine leak at a water treatment plant in Maryland’s Eastern Shore has injured two workers.

The Pittsville Water Treatment Plant was evacuated after the chlorine leak Thursday morning, and nearby residents were asked to stay indoors. Class continued at Pittsville Elementary and Middle School but Wicomico school officials say no one is allowed outside.

No area residents reported having symptoms of chlorine inhalation.

Pittsville Town Commissioner President Denver Moore tells The Daily Times of Salisbury (http://delmarvane.ws/1uJCNQ0 ) that a valve on a chlorine tank came apart while two technicians were working on it. It’s unclear how serious their injuries are.
