Newest anthrax vaccine to be produced in Lansing

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Drug developer Emergent BioSolutions Inc. says the new version of its anthrax vaccine will be produced in Lansing.

Adam Havey is president of the Rockville, Maryland, company’s biodefense division. He said Tuesday the new vaccine will be made with additives and other changes to the current vaccine.

BioThrax is manufactured at Emergent’s plant on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The Lansing State Journal reports (http://on.lsj.com/1mR935c ) the new vaccine also will be made there.

According to Havey, there won’t be any new jobs as a result of the $29 million federal contract the company received earlier this month for production of the next generation of the vaccine. But the new drug will help keep current employees working.
