HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — If Aaron Green hadn’t punched a guard at the prison where he was serving time, he’d be getting released in April.
Instead, he’ll spend four more years behind bars.
A Washington County jury found the 25-year-old Baltimore man guilty of assault Thursday in the October 2013 incident.
Green never denied punching Cory Berger, an officer at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown. But Green says Berger wanted him to attack, provoking him until he did.
Green testified that he and Berger had gotten into a brief argument, and that the next day, Berger “mushed” him in the face. Green says he then punched Berger in self-defense.
Berger testified that Green had slipped out of handcuffs and punched him without provocation.
Green was serving time on drug and weapons charges.
