BALTIMORE (AP) — A federal judge says there is enough evidence that disabled residents can’t take full advantage of absentee voting to continue with a lawsuit filed by the National Federation of the Blind against the state of Maryland.
U.S. District Judge Richard Bennett on Thursday denied a request by an attorney for the state of to issue a judgment in the lawsuit after plaintiffs rested their case.
Attorneys for a separate group for the blind that opposes the lawsuit began calling witnesses Thursday.
Lawyers for the Maryland chapter of the American Council of the Blind say an online tool designed to protect the privacy of blind voters is not accessible and subject to fraud.
The lawsuit seeks to require the state to implement the online ballot tool in November’s election.
