Man charged with 4 bank robberies in Maryland

KENSINGTON, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County Police have arrested a man they say has robbed four banks since December.

Police say about 4:40 p.m. Monday, a man walked into an M&T Bank in Kensington and gave a note to a teller. Authorities say the note implied the man had a weapon and demanded cash.

Officers say the man ran away after getting cash, but was quickly found hiding behind a shed.

Forty-five-year-old Jose Mercedes of Hyattsville was arrested. Police say he admitted to robbing the M&T Bank as well as three other banks in the county.

Mercedes is charged with four counts of armed robbery.
