Six of U.S.’s top richest neighborhoods are in D.C. area

WASHINGTON — The D.C. region is home to expensive residences and high-earning professionals and, as a recent survey found, some of the richest neighborhoods in the country.

Stephen Higley, a professor emeritus of urban social geography at the University of Montevallo, studied subdivisions around the country to determine the clusters where top-earners live, according to the Business Insider.

Neighborhoods in Chevy Chase, Bethesda and Potomac in Maryland and McLean in Virginia are among the top 25 richest neighborhoods in the country, according to his findings. There are two different neighborhoods in both Potomac and McLean on the list.

Bradley Manor-Longwood in Bethesda, Md., ranked No. 2 on the list with a mean household income of almost $600,000.

Higley used the American Community Survey and examined subdivisions of Census tracts with a mean income of more than $200,000 to determine the rankings.
