Woman gets 4 years in death of infant son

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Washington woman has sentenced to four years in prison in the death of her 7-week-old son.

Thirty-two-year-old Tisheena Brown pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of her son, Hakeem Brown. She was sentenced Friday in Superior Court. A judge also ordered that Brown receive mental health and drug treatment.

According to court documents, Brown called 911 on Sept. 17, 2013, to report that her son, Hakeem Brown, wasn’t breathing. The infant died at a hospital.

Prosecutors say an autopsy showed the cause of death to be a lethal dose of Promethazine, medication is used to treat allergic reactions and symptoms of the common cold. Authorities say It is prescribed with the warning that it should not be used in children younger than two.
