FAIRMOUNT HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) — Prince George’s County police say an officer used a department-issued trauma kit to provide care to a teenager who was shot in the chest.
The shooting occurred Friday night in Fairmount Heights. Police say Officer Brandon Farley recognized that the victim was severely injured and was able to seal the young man’s chest wound.
The victim was taken to a hospital. Police say their last report was that he was in critical but stable condition. Police say according to medical staff at the hospital, Farley’s actions prevented the victim’s lung from collapsing.
Police believe the shooting may have arisen from an argument and that the gunman fled in a car. Police have not identified any suspects.
The department began training all officers on the use of trauma kits this year.
