Urn carrying woman’s ashes stolen in Rhode Island

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Police in Rhode Island say an urn containing the ashes of a Virginia man’s grandmother has been stolen.

Warwick police say the small silver urn was stolen Thursday from an SUV parked behind a hotel in the city. Whoever took it may not have realized what it was and nothing else was taken from the vehicle.

The Providence Journal (http://bit.ly/1t01daW ) reports that the Virginia man had attended his grandmother’s funeral earlier in the day and was scheduled to return home on Friday.

Police are also looking for a vehicle that was reportedly driving around the parking lot of nearby hotel “possibly casing out unlocked motor vehicles.”

Warwick police are asking anyone with information about the urn to call them.
