WASHINGTON — The “Ice Bucket Challenge” is the charity sensation of the summer, raising more than $15 million for the ALS Association and its affiliates since July 29.
That compares to contributions of less than $50,000 during the same period in 2013.
WTOP Morning Anchor Mike Moss this week joined the cause, which goes toward the battle against Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
“I really like the idea of bringing this kind of spotlight and attention to something like ALS,” Moss says in a video before he hits himself with an icy bucket of water.
Moss asked his Twitter followers this week who they’d like him to challenge and they said veteran WTOP Traffic Reporter Bob Marbourg and WTOP’s Chris Core, who brings WTOP listeners “Core Values.”
“You’re on the clock,” Moss says.
Under the challenge, friends either dowse themselves with a bucket of water or donate $100 to ALS. And often, people do both.
