2 tornadoes confirmed in Va. in wake of hurricane

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The National Weather Service has confirmed that two weak tornadoes touched down in Virginia Beach and Norfolk from Hurricane Arthur’s rain bands.

Media outlets report that the tornadoes early last Friday morning moved into areas briefly, toppling trees, damaging siding and buildings.

They were classified as likely EF-0 twisters, which usually carry winds of 65 to 85 mph. No injuries were reported to the weather service.

A twister blew a tree onto a roof in Virginia Beach and another tornado toppled and uprooted trees at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk.
