Woman, 41, shot to death in Springfield

WASHINGTON – A 41-year-old Springfield woman is dead of an apparent gunshot wound, and Fairfax County police are investigating her death as suspicious.

Police say they responded around 6 p.m. New Year’s Day to a report of shots fired at a home in the 7100 block of Healy Drive in Springfield.

Police say after no one answered the door, they called the home but no one answered. Additional officers were sent to home, and when police entered at 9 p.m., they found Serena Hansken-Vierimaa dead.

A medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.

Police say they have charged Aaron Vierimaa, 41, with obstruction of justice. He also lived in the home.
