D.C. police officer admits to secretly taping nude stepdaughter

WASHINGTON – Just last year, Keith Tabron was named a Detective of the Year in the District. Now, his admission of secretly recording his step-daughter adds to recent legal troubles for D.C. police officers.

Tabron was charged with 50 counts of secretly recording his adult step-daughter both in the shower and in the bedroom where she stayed, NBC 4 reports.

The secret recordings went on for nine months.

Tabron pleaded guilty to multiple counts of video surveillance with prurient intent back in July.

His plea had not been reported until now. The case follows two other D.C. police officers who were recently charged in connection with with pimping and making child pornography.

D.C. Police say Tabron has been suspended without pay, NBC 4 reports.

Tabron joined the force in 1990, a class year that has repeatedly found trouble.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier estimates more than 40 percent of D.C. police officers who get arrested joined the force between 1989 and 1990.

Hiring practices have become more strict and exhaustive since then, she said.

Following the plea, Tabron was sentenced to a five-year suspended sentence and five years of probation, NBC 4 reports.
