Va. basketball coach facing child porn, sex assault charges

WASHINGTON – A trainer and basketball coach in Virginia has been arrested and charged with sexual assault and solicitation of child pornography.

The Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman says 39-year-old Marlow Mikassa Afshartous of Reston has provided basketball instruction at Claude Moore Recreation Center in Sterling and the now-closed Hoop Magic in Chantilly.

He was an employee of Loudoun County’s recreation program and a former professional basketball player in Europe.

Afshartous also is known as Marlow Talley. Authorities say he additionally participated with the Fairfax Stars and at Georgetown Day School.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office in June began looking into allegations that Afshartous had a sexual relationship with a female athlete under the age of 13. He was arrested last weekend with the help of Fairfax County police and is being held without bond.

Authorities say they are continuing the investigation to see if there may be additional alleged victims. Anyone with information is asked to call 703-777-0475.
