Pr. George’s closer to getting first Whole Foods market

WASHINGTON – Prince George’s County is closer to getting its very first Whole Foods Market.

The county’s planning board approved the multi-use project, which not only includes the Whole Foods, but multifamily housing, a hotel, as well as retail and office space.

The development would be located on about 40 acres off of Route 1 in Riverdale Park.

The plan has the support of County Executive Rushern Baker. The planning board vote was one of the last hurdles before the developer, Cafritz, can seek building permits and begin construction.

The project could still be waylaid by residents who oppose to it.

Some worry about the traffic it would add to an already busy Route 1 corridor.

The proposal now goes to the county council for final approval.
