Police give safety tips for warm-weather home protection

WASHINGTON – Enjoy the warm weather, but beware of criminals.

The Arlington County Police Department released two videos urging residents to use common sense when leaving their home and going outdoors.

When jogging, biking or running outside, the department suggests wearing light, reflective clothing. Stick to the main trails and go with a friend.

Many people have also started planning a vacation. To prevent criminals from breaking into a home, the department suggests asking a friend to hold onto the spare key, instead of leaving it on the property.

Always lock the doors and have a neighbor keep an eye on the house.
