Redskins fans rally in Frank Herzog’s honor

WASHINGTON – The squeal of the 12th man won’t be ignored, at least that’s what the Hogettes hope. The group of Redskins fans are asking the team to honor former team play-by-play announcer Frank Herzog.

Alongside Redskins Hall of Famers Sam Huff and Sonny Jurgenson, Herzog called Redskins games for 25 years, that’s 498 consecutive games by Herzog’s count, including four Super Bowls.

“His blood is burgundy and gold,” says Michael Torbert, also known as Mikey T, the Boss Hogette.

The Hogettes, a group of dedicated fans, have written the Redskins asking the team to include Herzog’s name in the Ring of Fame at FedEx Field.

“We hope the Redskins give him a wonderful consideration,” Torbert says.

Herzog began his broadcast career at WTOP. After retiring as the voice of the Washington Redskins in 2010, he ended his career back where it began.

Besides being the announcer for the Redskins, Herzog also called games for the Washington Bullets in the late ’70s.

The Hogette’s say they’re prepared to launch an all out effort to get Herzog’s name on the ring of fame.

WTOP has reached out to the Redskins for comment.
