19-year-old charged with DUI in fatal hit-and-run

WASHINGTON – A 19-year-old woman has been charged for drunken driving after she struck and killed a man on Interstate 95 early Saturday morning.

Additional charges against Carol Rood-Johnson of Woodbridge, Va. are pending, officials say.

The incident happened just after midnight at the 162 mile marker in Fairfax County, according to Virginia State Police. A male driver had pulled onto the right shoulder of I-95 and was standing next to his car when Rood-Johnson’s Hyundai Santa Fe SUV hit him.

Rood-Johnson fled the scene, but officials were able to track her down in Prince George’s County.

The victim died at the scene. Officials are working to confirm his identity.
