D.C. and Maryland get closer thanks to $10M grant

WASHINGTON – A $10 million grant will soon link 60 miles of trails between D.C. and Maryland.

Right now the only thing standing between Anacostia’s waterfront and 60 miles of Maryland trails is a four mile gap from D.C.’s Benning Road to Maryland’s Bladensburg Waterfront Park.

That gap will soon close thanks to a federal grant that will fund the construction of bridges and pathways that will tie Anacostia’s Riverwalk Trail to a network of Maryland trails and bikeways.

D.C.’s Department of Transportation says in a statement the trail design will be finished by the end of this summer, and construction could be completed by 2014.
