Last chance to lock in 2012 tuition costs

WASHINGTON – Monday is the deadline to lock in 2012 tuition prices for the Maryland Prepaid College Trust.

The college savings plan allows parents to put away money now for their child’s future education costs, but keep current tuition rates.

College Park Patch reports that 30,000 accounts are currently enrolled in the trust, a 28 percent increase from 2010 to 2011.

The increase in tuition costs from 2001 to 2011 for Maryland’s public universities have ranged from 59 to 63 percent, making college savings even more popular. The trust can be used at almost all colleges nationwide.

Families need to have enrollments in the prepaid trust post marked by Monday, April 2. Online enrollment via CollegeSavingsMD.org needs to be completed by 11:59 p.m. Monday.
