Gas prices rise 14 cents in last week

WASHINGTON – Gas prices are skyrocketing and show no signs of leveling off. The latest WTOP Pain in the Gas survey shows the average price of a gallon of regular shot up by 14 cents, to $3.95 over the past week. The average price is 29 cents higher than one year ago this week.

Mid-grade went up 15 cents to $4.12 a gallon. Premium rose by 14 cents to $4.24.

In the District, the average price for a gallon of regular is $4.05.

The average for regular is cheapest in Virginia, at $3.82, compared to $3.88 in Maryland and $3.99 in the District.

  • Regular: $3.94
  • Mid-Grade: $4.11
  • Premium: $4.24
  • Diesel: $4.21

  • Regular: $3.86
  • Mid-Grade: $4.02
  • Premium: $4.12
  • Diesel: $4.13

One year ago on March 17, gas prices in WTOP’s Pain in the Gas survey averaged $3.66 a gallon, while mid-grade was $3.81 and premium $3.97.
