WASHINGTON – The head of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is confident that disagreements over the funding deal for the first phase of the Dulles Rail project will be worked out.

Gov. Bob McDonnell sent a letter detailing conditions of his approval of $150 million in new state funding for the project.

McDonnell wants to ensure Virginia’s right-to-work laws are not violated, and he wants the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority to seat two new members appointed by the state.

“All of us have caveats to our reaching full agreement,” Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Sharon Bulova says.

“I believe that the Governor’s caveats or conditions should be something that can be worked out. Fairfax County too had some issues that we need to make sure are addressed as far as a final funding package goes,” she adds.

The first phase of Dulles Rail from Falls Church, through Tysons Corner to Reston is scheduled to open in late 2013.

The budget for the first phase is $2.8 billion dollars, and project leaders say it is on target.

Bulova calls it the “number one transportation priority in Fairfax County.”
