City council votes to honor RG3 without using term ‘Redskins’

WASHINGTON — The D.C. City Council has approved a resolution honoring Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, but not before registering its disfavor with the team name.

By unanimous consent the council agreed to substitute “Redskins” with “Washington’s football team” in the ceremonial resolution.

The council is saluting Griffin for being named Associated Press NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year for 2012.
