WHAT’S AT STAKE

Baylor tries to win its second game at its new riverfront campus stadium, six days after holding SMU to 67 total yards on 64 plays in a 45-0 debut win. The Bears have won 11 consecutive home games and 20 of 21 in Waco since 2011.

KEY MATCHUP

Baylor’s dominating DL vs. the Northwestern State OL, which lost three senior starters from last season. The Bears sacked SMU a team record-matching nine times, seven of them by seven defensive linemen. The Demons didn’t allow a sack in their opener.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Northwestern State: Senior QB Zach Adkins, the Southland Conference newcomer of the year last season, completed 31 of 42 passes for 318 yards and two TDs, and rushed nine times for 24 yards in the opener.

Baylor: WR Jay Lee had eight catches for 83 yards and a TD against SMU. He became a primary target after Antwan Goodley had a recurrence of a quad issue in the first quarter, and failed to have a catch for the first time in 18 games.

Baylor QB Bryce Petty, who says he plans to play through a back injury, has thrown at least two touchdowns in each of his 14 starts. His 14-game streak with at least one TD pass is the longest in Baylor history, breaking a tie with Robert Griffin III in the opener. … The Demons, playing the first of four consecutive road games, had a 24-7 halftime lead in their 34-27 opening loss at home against Missouri State. … After Northwestern State, the Bears won’t be back at McLane Stadium again for more than a month. They have three consecutive road games, with an off week mixed in, before their next home game Oct. 11 vs. TCU. … Baylor’s average margin of victory against Northwestern has been 47 points.
