Lions claim WR Payton off waivers from Buccaneers

DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Lions have claimed wide receiver Quintin Payton off waivers from Tampa Bay.

Detroit made the move Wednesday, adding the undrafted rookie from North Carolina State two days after he was cut by the Buccaneers.

The 6-foot-4, 212-pound Payton will get a chance to compete for a roster spot at a position led by Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate.

Payton had 23 receptions for 481 yards and three touchdowns last season as a senior. He had 85 catches for 1,424 yards and five scores in his career with the Wolfpack.
