ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — Wide receiver Kris Durham and running back Mikel Leshoure were among 22 cuts by the Detroit Lions on Saturday as they trimmed their roster to the 53-man limit.
Durham, a college teammate of Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, caught 38 passes for 490 yards for Detroit last season, but the team appears to have a decent amount of depth at his position.
Leshoure was a second-round pick by the Lions in 2011, but he missed that whole season because of an injury. He ran for 798 yards in 2012, but had only two carries last season.
Detroit also released guards Rodney Austin and Garrett Reynolds; tackle Michael Williams; linebackers Shamari Benton, Brandon Hepburn and Julian Stanford; wide receivers Patrick Edwards and Andrew Peacock; tight ends Michael Egnew and Jordan Thompson; defensive tackles Andre Fluellen, Xavier Proctor and Jimmy Saddler-McQueen; cornerbacks Chris Greenwood and Mohammed Seisay; running backs Emil Igwengu and George Winn; center Darren Keyton; safety Nate Ness and defensive end Darryl Tapp.
Receivers Corey Fuller and Ryan Broyles showed promise during the preseason, and they both made the cut. So did quarterback Kellen Moore, who was a star at Boise State before signing with the Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2012. Moore has never played in a regular-season game.
Defensive end George Johnson hasn’t played in a game since 2012, but the Lions have kept him as well. The Minnesota Vikings cut Johnson last October.
