Virginian Wesleyan sued over sexual assault

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A former student has sued Virginia Wesleyan College, claiming that she was sexually assaulted and the college allowed her attacker to voluntarily withdraw from school so he could enroll elsewhere.

The Virginian Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/1vNjFCC ) the lawsuit was filed in Norfolk Circuit Court.

The lawsuit alleges the school knew male students were drugging female students and raping them. It seeks $10 million.

The woman filed the lawsuit using the name Jane Doe.

The college said in a statement it denies any improper conduct.

The woman’s lawyer, Jonathan Halperin, says a couple of months after the 2012 incident, she reported it to police, but the investigation languished due to a lack of evidence.
