Parking at the airport? Bring some extra money

May 9, 2008 - 5:42am
Adam Tuss, WTOP Radio

WASHINGTON - There's something else you can add to the list of items that are going to cost more: parking at local airports.

WTOP has learned parking rates at both Reagan National and Dulles International airports will increase on June 1.

At Reagan National:

  • Daily garages will increase from $17 a day to $20 a day.
  • Economy lots go from $10 to a maximum of $12 for 24 hours.
  • There are no changes to rates at hourly garages, or with valet service.

A 700-space satellite parking lot will open at Reagan National on June 1 because of ongoing construction at the current parking garages. The satellite lot will cost $10 a day.

At Dulles International:

  • Daily garages will increase from $15 a day to $17 a day.
  • Economy lots go from $9 to a maximum of $10 for 24 hours.
  • Valet service increases from $17 for each additional day to $19.
  • There will be no change to fees at hourly garages.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority says the rates are going up because demand at lots and garages is growing.

Raising the rates will help spread out vehicles in all lots, especially economy lots, MWAA says.
