HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — Republican Dan Bongino is conceding to U.S. Rep. John Delaney in the close race for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.

Bongino acknowleged Delaney’s victory in a statement Friday morning. The Associated Press declared Delaney the winner Thursday night after an absentee vote count.

In a statement to supporters, Bongino says “it is now time to move on and allow the citizens of Maryland to be heard.”

He says Delaney “ran an incredible race and has emerged as an important voice in Maryland’s political environment.”

Delaney, a first-term congressman, led Bongino by 2,269 votes out of more than 184,000 after four counties reported their canvass results Thursday. Those counties are Allegany, Frederick, Garrett and Montgomery.

Washington County planned to announce its tally of absentee ballots Friday.
