UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — President Barack Obama is urging Maryland residents to vote for Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown for governor.

The president attended a rally for Brown on Sunday in Prince George’s County.

Obama says Brown has been fighting for them, and now they need to fight for him against Republican Larry Hogan.

Brown, a Democrat, noted that only one in four Prince George’s County voters turned out to vote in June’s primary, and he said he needs their help.

Prince George’s County is about 65 percent black and is Brown’s home base. The county is key for Brown to win the governorship in a state with a total black population of about 30 percent. Prince George’s is one of the state’s biggest counties, with 510,000 total eligible voters — 442,639 of them Democrats.
