TV station: Cuomo interview nixed over ground rule

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A television station says its interview with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was abruptly canceled when the station said it wanted to ask him about more than his new memoir.

WHAM-TV in Rochester reports (http://bit.ly/1su6qVX ) that the publishers of Cuomo’s book arranged the interview for Wednesday night. A Cuomo aide later called, asking the station to only ask questions about the memoir. When the station refused, the interview was canceled.

Station assignment manager Brian Houseman says it wanted to ask Cuomo about the governor’s race, a local bridge repair project and natural gas drilling. Houseman says Cuomo’s efforts to promote his own book aren’t newsworthy.

Publisher HarperCollins says the interviews were set up to publicize the memoir only.
