WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus is outlining a series of “unifying goals” for the GOP that include an improved immigration system, a strong national defense and conservative family values.

He delivered a speech at Georgetown University on Thursday outlining priorities should Republicans win the Senate majority and make other gains on Election Day.

The speech was prompted in part by pressure from Republican officials — particularly major donors — who fear that the GOP has become too fixated on fighting President Barack Obama.

Priebus largely avoided detailed solutions to specific policy challenges. Instead he outlined popular themes such as strengthening the nation’s military, giving parents more educational choices, promoting energy independence and defending the Constitution.
