Fire on train causes morning problems on MARC and Amtrak

October 28, 2009 - 10:32am
NEW CARROLLTON, Md. - Amtrak and MARC trains are now rolling through the New Carrollton station after a morning fire.

Firefighters had to shut down the tracks that serve Amtrak and MARC's Penn Line to contain a small, electrical fire on an Amtrak train.

The incident caused major disruptions for morning commuters on MARC's Penn Line.

The fire was a small one on the lead locomotive of Amtrak Train 180.

Prince George's Fire and EMS spokesman Mark Brady said crews were dispatched to handle it at 6:10 a.m. No injuries were reported.

There were 40 passengers on Amtrak Train 180 headed to Boston, says Amtrak spokesman Clint Black. The passengers were put on another train to Boston.
