PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. - Prince William County Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who may have assaulted a 17-year-old girl.

Police say the teenager was walking near the Prince William Parkway and the Chinn Library around 6 p.m. Monday when a man approached her, claiming to be a police officer.

The man told the girl he was going to arrest her, asked her to turn around and choked her until she lost consciousness, the teenager tells police.

Police say the teen awoke a short time later and began to walk home.

Another teenage girl driving a gray four-door sedan saw the teen walking and crying and gave her a ride home, police say.

The victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries to her neck, but was treated and released, police say.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of the library and the Parkway between 6:30 - 7 p.m. Monday is asked to call the police non-emergency number at 703-792-6500.

The suspect is described as a black man in his late 20s with a dark complexion, about 5'7"-5'8" tall, with a thin build, police say. He had short hair, mustache and chin hair - although not a goatee - and open wounds on his left palm.

Police say he was last seen wearing a navy blue hooded sweatshirt with unknown company logo in white lettering on front and dark blue jeans.

The bicycle is described as an adult-sized red Mongoose Mountain Bike with a partially torn black seat. "Mongoose" was written on the bike in white lettering

Anyone with information is asked to call Prince William County Crime Solvers at 703-670-3700 or 1-866-411-TIPS.
