Body pulled from Potomac is that of missing boy

May 12, 2009 - 6:49pm
WASHINGTON - A body pulled from the Potomac River last week has been positively identified as a missing 11-year-old boy who fell into the river while fishing last month.

D.C. Police say the body is that of 11-year-old Jorge Eligio Rivera, who has been identified in earlier reports as Jorge Castro.

Police have been looking for the boy since April 26, when he slipped on some rocks and fell into the water on a fishing trip with his father.

The body was found near Fletcher's Cove, about a thousand yards from where the boy was fishing.

Rivera's father went into the river after he saw his son fall. Authorities had to pull the father from the river.

Police say two Good Samaritans also tried to rescue the boy.

On May 2, authorities recovered the body of a man from the river. They are working to identify him and say he is possibly one of the two Good Samaritans who were lost while attempting to rescue the boy.

Police believe the body of the other man, 37-year-old Hau Nyugen, was pulled from the Virginia side of the Potomac River several days after the incident.
