IED Found at Bel Pre Elementary

June 11, 2007 - 8:54am
SILVER SPRING, Md. - A construction worker found an already detonated improvised explosive device outside of Bel Pre Elementary School Monday morning.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Department spokesman Pete Piringer says the bomb squad checked it out and determined that it had already been detonated or someone had attempted to detonate it.

The device was found around 6:15 a.m. on the campus in the 13800 block of Rippling Brook Drive.

Piringer says police and arson investigators conducted a security sweep of the building.

Students are being diverted to Argyle Middle School as the investigation continues.

School officials believe the students will be able to return to Bel Pre later in the day.
