Lack of Heat Causes Problems in D.C. Schools

February 7, 2007 - 7:19am
WASHINGTON - D.C. schools are on a two-hour delay Wednesday, but a lack of heat in three schools means students will be bused to other schools.

The schools that are closed are Johnson Junior High School at 1400 Bruce Place, SE and Simon Elementary School at 401 Mississippi Ave., SE.

Students from Johnson will be transferred to Turner Elementary School and Malcom X Elementary School.

The eight and ninth grade students will be bused to Malcom X. Students from Simon will be bused to P.R. Harris Education Center.

D.C. school officials say H.D. Woodson, which closed Monday because of a lack of heat, remains closed all week, with students being transported daily to the Evans Education Center.

According to D.C. school spokesman John White, students should walk to their usual school, the one that's closed. From there they'll be bused to the temporary school.

The only students who are normally bused from home are special education students. They'll be picked up at home, as usual, and brought to the temporary schools.

School administrators are trying to put together a large-scale repair effort over the next day or two, according to Channel 4.
