Delphi CEO called by Senate panel probing GM

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Senate panel investigating General Motors’ ignition switch recall is calling on the CEO of the company that made the switches to testify at an upcoming hearing.

Senators also want to hear from GM CEO Mary Barra, investigator Anton Valukas and compensation expert Kenneth Feinberg.

The July 17 hearing will be the second into the recall by the Senate Commerce subcommittee on consumer protection. Rodney O’Neal, the CEO and president of switch maker Delphi, could be asked about communications that Delphi employees had with the GM engineer responsible for the switch.

Valukas, a former federal prosecutor, led an internal investigation of GM’s handling of the recall. Feinberg recently unveiled a plan for compensating the victims of crashes caused by faulty switches.

The problem is responsible for at least 13 deaths.
