Energy-efficient tax credits end Dec. 31

WASHINGTON – If you’re planning on fixing that drafty window in your house, now would be better than later.

Consumer Reports says time is running out for homeowners to make energy-efficient improvements that quality for a 2011 tax credit.

The credits of up to $500 are set to expire at the end of the year, and it’s uncertain if Congress will renew them for 2012.

Home improvements that qualify for these credits include exterior windows, skylights and storm windows, insulation and high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment.

Check the Energy Star website to see which improvements qualify for tax credits and how to apply.
