Kenya police: 2 Australians killed in bus accident

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Two Australian tourists died and 16 other westerners were injured when the vehicle they were in crashed along a highway west of the capital, a Kenyan police officer said Monday.

The tour bus was ferrying 21 tourists to Tanzania when one of its rear tires burst causing it to overturn Sunday, said Paul Kerich, a senior police officer in Narok, where the accident happened.

He said 18 of the injured have been brought to the capital, Nairobi, for treatment. The tourists included German, Swiss, U.S. and British nationals, said Kerich.

Kenya is struggling to reduce the number of people dying from road accidents. The government says around 3,000 people lose their lives annually to road accidents and over 10,000 are injured or maimed.
