AP PHOTOS: Play eases trauma for Gaza children

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — Gaza’s fragile ceasefire is allowing children to play, and overcome some of the trauma of four weeks of war.

Volunteers arranged a special therapy session Thursday on the playground of the Al Renal Preparatory School for Boys in Gaza City. They sang with the children, organized games and listened to their stories.

“The war has left them in a shock. We want to take that away, ease their shock. We want to bring back hope to their hearts,” said one of the volunteers, 25-year-old Nisreen Shawa.

So far the volunteers have visited 10 schools, where many children and their families took shelter during the bombardment.

Here’s a collection of images of the children at play.
