WASHINGTON — A house resting on a cliff bordering Texas’ Lake Whitney is crumbling piece-by-piece into the water, 75 feet below.

The owners of the house were ordered to move out two weeks ago, WFAA reports.

The rest of the 4,000-square-foot house is still hanging off of the cliff. It is questionable if or when the rest of the house will collapse into the water.

The sight of debris and the sound of the crash were noticed miles away from the home. Neighbors Connie Ash and Jackie McNamara tell WFAA they noticed the initial crash on 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“I immediately thought it was an earthquake or blasting; it was loud, really loud,” Ash said. “And then I saw smoke, dust, water … I don’t know, it was a huge cloud of stuff.”

About a year ago, a crack in the cliff nearby was noted, according to The Hill County Sheriff.

A sign that said, “EXTREME DANGER, STAY OFF PREMISES” was placed in the front yard to warn neighbors.
