WASHINGTON – One thousand players. Twenty-four hours. One lacrosse game.

The “Shootout for Soldiers” will set a record for time and number of players, but it’s also going to raise support for wounded warriors.

The game will be divided into 1-hour sections, with each player suiting up for either the Stars or the Stripes.

Two new teams will take the field each hour at the Boys’ Latin School of Maryland in Baltimore until Friday morning.

Tyler Steinhardt, a high school senior, is the face behind the record-setting game. He says players from age 10 to 65 from more than six states have signed up.

“It’s a privilege that we get to play lacrosse every day,” he said. “It’s definitely something I want to do with my life, in terms of not just lacrosse for the Shootout for Soldiers, but in terms of using the power of sports and this kind of platform for doing good and making change.”

Ryan Major, who was awarded a Purple Heart after losing his legs in Iraq, was there for the start of the game.

“That lifts my spirits tenfold, to know that a high school senior put this together,” he said. “It makes me that much more proud to serve this country as a whole.”
